From our eyes to God’s ears, our tears tell a story that our minds can’t always conceptualize and leaves our mouths empty of words to describe the events that have brought us to our knees.
Have you ever had a good cry? I mean a cry where you didn’t quite know why you were crying or maybe you did? A cry that leaves your loved ones feeling helpless due to being unable to transcribe your tears and help you; even if they wanted to. These are the cries that are only experienced once you’ve endured the kind of pain that leads you to the arms of the creator in a desperate search of relief. The kind of cry that only God Himself can understand as the tears flow from your eyes into an inconsolable waterfall of sorrow. A cry like this is cleansing; here’s why.
When you experience the kind of cry mentioned above, it lets you know that you’ve reached a point where something has to change! Not only does something have to change, but you have to be the one to take the first step. Something clicks and you realize that no one is coming to save you and once that last tear falls, you have to get up and do the work to be better. Being in this space allows you to see just how low life can be and for most of us, we realize that we will do whatever we need in order to elevate higher than this humble place of drowning in our sorrows. Subsequently, this place becomes a sacred one, because once you come out of this place, you visit here mentally when life gets hard to remind yourself of the strength you hold after picking yourself up from such a low place.
There is also a biological explanation for your tears. According to Cleveland Clinic (2022), Dr. Roizen says that “Crying also happens for physical reasons to deliver nutrients and wash out stress-related toxins.” In addition to this, Cleveland Clinic(2022), reported that your tears can relay chemical messages to someone close by; subsequently bringing about empathy or compassion in others or signaling them to stay way. The Fact Retriever (February 3, 2021), states that emotional tears contain stress hormones, so a person may feel better after crying due to purging negative stress. These are a few scientific facts to validate your tears. No matter where you are in life, there will be times when you just need a good, cleansing cry. And that is OKAY!
So, when you find your face in the palm of your hands as the God of the universe transcribes your tears into unspoken prayers, I want you to know that you are not alone.
We have all been there. Allow those tears to cleanse you.
Until next time,
Be well.
